Worry Less, Live More

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

I woke up this morning to a sink overflowing with dirty dishes, Collin's dirty clothes and toys cluttering the floor, and something unidentifiable, but very very sticky on my kitchen floor. If I stand in the living room, I smell 5 different smells at once (none of which are very pleasant) and I haven't taken a shower in two days because I'm afraid I'll be attacked by what's growing in there!

So as I stood in my kitchen surrounded by yuckiness and feeling very overwhelmed, I did what any sane person would do. I rolled up my sleeves, took a deep breath...........................................
and left my house.

Goin' Courtin' - I Spy...

Ready for another cheesy date?

So Michael bought two dart guns to use during one of his Seminary games, but he also likes to shoot them at me when I'm not looking. So it planted an idea...

Saturday I placed the invitation to our "date" in his lunch so he would find it when he got to work. Here was the invitation...

Agent Boyd:

Your cover as an LDS bookstore owner has been compromised. We have received intelligence that you are being trailed by a highly trained assassin.

You must terminate the enemy and resume a new identity.

You have until 2200 hours.

Due to funding cuts this message will not self- destruct.

-the agency

That was the only clue he was given as to what our date would be. When he got home he found a set of black clothes laid out for him on the bed.
(This is when I realized our wardrobes are sadly lacking since the only dark clothing either of us owned were pj's)

Anyways, once Collin went to bed we cut off the lights (except for a few small ones. We didn't want anyone else ending up with a broken bone :)

And then, the hunt began...
We hid in the weirdest places, chased each other all around the house shooting darts at each other and pretty much acting like two teenagers, but it was so much fun! I won't brag by saying that I won. Because to toot your own horn and say that you are the better spy just isn't very nice :)

That's Gonna Leave a Mark Part II

Collin's Dr. called us a few days ago and said that while he was reviewing Collin's x-rays he noticed a little shadow that ran along his Tibia bone. After blowing the x-ray up, he had a suspicion that the shadow was another fracture so he asked us to come back in.
From what I could see, and from what was explained to me, Collin has a fracture on his Fibula that runs vertically and then he has a fracture on his Tibia that runs horizontally. And since the Tibia is a weight bearing bone, he needed to be taken out of his "walking cast" and put into a cast that won't allow him to walk until the bone is healed.

So Collin spent the morning getting his old cast removed and a longer cast put on.

He did so good! He just sat there and watched them saw off his old cast and then watched as they re-wrapped his leg in a new one.

He was copying everything the Doctor was doing. When the doctor would tap on the cast, Collin would tap on the cast.
When the doctor started smoothing the bumps out of the gauze before it dried, Collin tried to smooth it out too. He ended up with green fingers in the end, but at least he was entertained.

So the plan is to wear the full leg cast for 3 weeks, go back for more x-rays and if the Tibia bone has healed then he will be placed in the walking cast again for 2 more weeks. I am so glad this happened now and not during the summer!!!

No Eggplants Allowed!

It's garden time again and I'm so excited! Michael added another plot to our garden so we had extra room to plant more veggies! This year we planted...

Cucumber tomato

peppers

green beans

squash, zucchini
and cantaloupe

I'm a little worried about the cantaloupe because I've never planted it before so I'm not really hopeful, but we'll see. One thing that is NOT welcome in my garden this year, is Eggplant!!!

This is Collin and I at the beginning of the year pulling weeds and getting the garden ready for planting. And THAT is our stubborn eggplant that kept producing and wouldn't die! I couldn't bring myself to tear it out if it was still thriving, but I was soooo sick of having Eggplant Parmesan every week, so I tried to kill it off. Even after 5 months without watering it, it was still bearing eggplant! One of the frosts that came through in Jan. finally killed it and I have to say, it felt really good to take a shovel to that thing.

The funny thing was, Michael happened to be listening to this gardening station on the radio one day and some guy called in asking about eggplant. He said no matter what he did he couldn't get his eggplant to thrive. My advice...don't water the crazy thing and tell it that you wished it would die!...that ought to make it grow like crazy!!
